Below you will find some useful links to information that explains the reasoning behind establishing the Society.
The Society seeks to establish a membership that represents the views of the wider community of Langs Beach. This is specifically the coastal area between Waipu Cove and Bream Tail, as shown on the map below.
Residents and owners of properties within this area can apply for membership of the Society and have their views represented. The Society may also accept as members, people from outside this area who have a direct interest in the Langs Beach area and community that aligns with the objectives of the Society.
The Society was created to consolidate and advance a number of initiatives already taken by local groups and private individuals in the Langs Beach community.
The Society has engaged legal counsel, and is now formally registered as an interested party in those MACA applications we have identified as relating to Langs Beach.
Below is an overview of the ways in which the Society is directly engaged in the process:
The Society is administered by a committee formed from its members and comprised of a Chairperson, a Deputy Chairperson and between 4 and 6 other members.
The Committee is elected at the Annual General Meeting, which is generally held at Langs Beach in February.
You can contact any of the committee directly via email using the convention firstname@lbsoc.com
The current committee is:
The Langs Beach Society has been established with a primary objective “to represent the members of the Society who are part of the community of Langs Beach, in respect of their interest with applications made under the Marine and Coastal Area (Takutai Moana) Act 2011” (MACA).
The Society has adopted a set of Rules, a Membership Application Form, a Committee, Officers within that Committee and Sub Committees to lead Membership, Evidence and Legal activities.
In order for the Society to carry out its primary objective it will need to gather and prepare information to be presented as part of the MACA applications process. This is essentially a legalistic participation process under Crown Engagement and a legal process should the matter go to High Court.
To be at its most effective, the Langs Beach Society aspires to all of the following:
As an incorporated society, we have an established set of rules that define our objectives, and governance procedures.

We are engaged in a complex legal process that will assess the historical occupation and use of the area for the past 170 years. The Society is seeking people with relevant skills and expertise in areas of historical research and legal processes relevant to settlement of historical land claims.
A major part of our engagement is to compile a record of the ways in which the area has been occupied and used over the past 170 years. We welcome input from anyone with memories or other information that can contribute to that historical record.
Do you have skills you think would be helpful to our process?
We welcome input from people with both legal and lay experience in community led organisations.
We are entirely funded by donations from members and other interested parties.
This is the most powerful way for us to show we represent the wider Langs Beach Community.
We encourage people to join the Society and ensure the voice of the community is heard in this process.
If you reside, own or are directly associated with an owner of a property in the Langs Beach area, you can join the Society, contribute to its outcomes, and encourage others in the area to also become members.
Apply NowThe Society must self-fund the cost of engaging legal and other professional services throughout the applications review process. Members and any other interested parties are invited to donate towards the coverage of costs.
Contact us at Info@lbsoc.com if you are interested in donating to the society.
